Meeting Minutes
Members Present: Kurt Miericke, Sue Beveridge, Joan Grodski, Bruce Lieske, Susan Mueller, Ron Schroeder, and Pat Stanforth.
Members Absent: Ray Biechele, Jim Mathews and Luis Rios.
The meeting was held at Pat’s house. It was called to order at 7:35 PM by Kurt.
The meeting minutes from the previous meeting, April 18th, were approved.
Treasurer’s Report. Sue B. stated the current balance is $10,997.74. There are 203 paid Chelsea Woods members. The treasurer’s report was approved.
Beautification Report. Ron has been replacing light bulbs and adjusting the timers as necessary.
Pond 59. Kurt has been in contact with the city and due to his calls, they have restocked the pond with carp that eat algae. The drain has been fixed and the pond has refilled. The current problems stemmed from the drain problems in the spring. The Board decided that Pond 59 is not the nicest of names. We have renamed that pond Chelsea Lake. The pond near Vistawilla will be called Chelsea Pond.
Deed Restrictions. Kurt would like Luis to send a letter to a home that has had several inoperable cars parked in the driveway for sometime.
Road Sinking. Seneca Blvd. had developed a ditch or hole due to water problems. Kurt contacted the city. This area of the road has been patched and the underlying problem corrected.
SR 417. A brochure has been sent out to all the homes in Chelsea Woods, and other areas, concerning the widening of SR 417. The area behind us will be widened to 6, possibly 8 lanes. Bruce is gathering contact information on surrounding neighborhoods such as Eagle’s Nest, Seneca Bend etc. The brochure stated that public input meetings will be held in the fall and next spring. We hope to get a crowd of people there. We want a sound wall.
Insurance. Our insurer no longer insures property in the state. Replacement insurance due to hurricanes etc. on the monuments has been dropped as it is not deemed necessary. Insurance for the Board and liability in case of accidents on common property has been renewed.
Oviedo Buses. About half of CW is in the walk zone for Oviedo HS. Kurt and a group of parents in the greater Tuscawilla walk zone spoke to the SCPS Safety Advisory Committee. They are not willing to bus within the 2 mile walk zone. However, due to conditions on 426 such as lack of sidewalks, they are willing to add 2 bus stops to Tuscawilla. It seems they will help us keep as many courtesy seats as possible.
Air Pollution. Residents of CW closer to Winter Springs Blvd. have noticed a strange smell some evenings. Kurt spoke to the cement factory on 426 and doesn’t believe it is them.
Speeding on Seneca. Kurt has received numerous calls about speeding on Seneca. He has encouraged those neighbors to call WS police dept. using the non-emergency number. Note – the following day WS PD had set up a speed trap in the morning along Seneca.
Unleashed Dogs. All residents are encouraged to keep their dogs leashed. This is a violation of both city and county codes.
Fall Fest. This event will be held on Oct. 28th. Kurt has rented the pavilion. We will arrange for a bouncy castle for the kids. Susan will make up a brochure similar to last years. This will be distributed in the next 2 or 3 weeks. Sue will make up the labels and Kurt will arrange for an advertisement to cover the cost of mailing. Closer to the time, signs will be posted at both ends advertising the event. Jim should include this in the newsletter. Susan will speak to Sonny’s about providing food. Susan and Joan are considering adding a dessert contest.
The next Board of Directors meeting will be held on Sept. 25th at 7:30 PM at Sue Beveridge’s house at 1834 Seneca Blvd.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 PM.
Respectfully submitted by Pat Stanforth, secretary.
